The grey area between gaming and gambling has always been interesting. It’s grey, oh yes, it is. No one even knows where the grey boundary begins and ends, but we all know that there is some invisible force that splits Gaming and Gambling. And in this grey area, people do create interesting things and are opportunistic in finding the gold mine. Gaming / gambling has only got more interesting over time.

SIME had the chance to catch up with Niklas Jonsson, who has been on the management of Svenska Spel for 9 years, being an intrapreneur, building and innovating within the big Swedish state owned gambling monopoly, and boy he had some interesting view points on how the gambling landscape is evolving.

The video of the interview (with some wind and kids in the background adding to the lullaby) is below:

    In short, the essence is:

    • Gambling industry is consolidating, and are looking for new distribution models. Mobile is getting interesting, so is browser gaming.
    • We miss a standard like Internet Explorer and Windows for mobile based gambling / gaming
    • The search for the next “poker” continues
    • And the grey area between gaming and gambling get more complex due to the absence of 1 legal entity / body that governs the multi billion dollar gambling industry

He sorely misses a standard in the gambling industry, a Windows and IE of sorts that can bring things more closer, especially on the mobile. And the quest for the next poker is full on. The talk is here [...]
