The State of the European Digital Economy!

How does the European digital economy look like? 2010 was clearly the year where two words dominated the scene – mobile and social. Mobile mainly due to the Android story, the 590M$ Advertising revenue, the ever increasing mobile ad impressions and the launch of cheaper hardware and more sophisticated software. Social due to a new seamless layer that is being added to everything we touch and do. From games to communities, its all about staying connected, multi-tasking with your friends, adding your location  etc. To look into the future, its good to see how far we have come.

The highlights:

1. The most time spent in Europe was on facebook followed by local stars Mail.ru and Poland’s Nasza-Klaza.pl
2. Search still dominated the usage pattern, although the budget spent on SEM decreased in 2010
3. Photos, Communities and Social Networking experienced the most growth
4. Social Networking accounted for greater portion of ad. revenues, predominantly due to Facebook’s phenomenal growth and the movement of digital dollars into engagement rather than pure display
5. The Social Commerce Movement spread like wild fire due to the adoption of services like Groupon and its clones.

SIME Amsterdam next in the pipe as we go to more cities this year

SIME is about how digital opportunities can convert to new business, creating a better world and to have a lot of fun.

True to that story, we want to find digital opportunities in major hot beds which is the big vision. And as one small step, we are taking SIME into more cities this year.  As you might already know SIME Vienna is scheduled for April 28th, and now SIME Amsterdam is entering the foray for a 1 day 09-1700 SIME track bringing to you the best of SIME – keynotes, debates, discussions, workshops and match making / networking.

SIME Helsinki, Barcelona and of course the big show in Stockholm together promises for atleast 5 SIME’s this year. SIME’s International Team headed by Rupert Schaefer are working day and night to make sure the quintessential SIME experience is carried on as we head to more new shores.

[UPDATED] SIME Vienna in April: Brewing the digital Century!

In breaking news, SIME Vienna is on the charts for April 28th. We are extremely happy to have Microsoft and ZIT Vienna as our partners for the 1 day by-invitation only SIME day to be held in one of the last and oldest breweries in Vienna called Brauerei Ottakringer. The theme for the day is “Brewing the digital Century”

Our vision is to create a leading international event in Vienna bringing together world-class speakers, global and local thought leaders from the Internet, media, telecom and entertainment industry with entrepreneurs, investors, journalists, marketing professionals and other decision makers. SIME with Microsoft as co-host wants to establish a new and sustainable platform for young creative, digital  entrepreneurs and media agencies to foster growth of the Austrian digital ecosystem. In a one day „invitation only“ event we present the best of SIME followed by business matchmaking for companies interested in doing business in Austria and Vienna as well as expert workshops with international speakers.

If you thought SIME Helsinki in a Moulin Rouge setting was cool, you will love SIME Vienna. It is to be held in Brauerei Ottakringer, one of the oldest breweries in the region, which we plan to rework to make sure the place blends into a SIME style setting with flashlights etc but still retains the soul of the place.
