From the agenda
Game dynamics is gluing us to Angry Birds and Kinnect but it is also increasingly used to as a strategic tool as Prius car owners compete in lowest gas consumption, marketers engage millions and location based social networks make us check in at an increasing number of restaurants, bars and other places. With Elísabet Grétarsdóttir, Eve Online,Johan Sjöberg, founder Starstable, and Robin Teigland, Stockholm School of Economics.
Key takeaways:
- Why playfulness is an important marketing asset.
- How to make almost anything into a game.
- Why game dynamics is not a fad.Summary
The presentation on gamification was also a great pull and sparked a discussion on gender and gaming behavior: “I particular like how they stated specifically that girls can plat STarStable while the buys go on WoW”; “What “non-killing” games exist that are targeted towards boys? Does it have to be a boys vs. girls thing?”; “Newsflash: girls play WoW and guys ride too!”. Questions were raised: “is the gender thing a result of that boys are supposed to be more competitive? Winning is for boys and acheiving sth for girls? #SIME11”.
Gamification in general also attracted many comments: “#sime11 humans definitely need to play!”, “20 hours/week – amount of time for a regular player of EVE online #SIME11” and “One billion people playing games online. Gamification! #SIME11”. The difference between games and gamification was another topic as was the gamification of education: “Cool, “gamification” in schools instead of grades #SIME11” and “Yes! Use gamification in education to engage kids! #sime”.
Elisabeth Gretarsdottir’s contribution to the presentation was received with much enthusiasm: “Elisabet from CCP is teaching us how to think about gamification! That woman is awesome!” “Elísabet Grétarsdóttir rocks”, “Elisabet lays out the Minecraft of H&M ! Awesome!”
