Hail the Mighty 36 – Congrats to the stars!
Posted by mahesh in Awards SIME Companies SIME News | Oct 14, 2009 @ 7:00Finally, all the 36 super stars from the SIME Rising Stars of the North are released, and the list looks formidable to say the least. Should we pity the jury members who have the task of digging deeper into the business models, growth options, innovation height, sustainability amongst other KPI’s to rank them in an order from 1 – 36? I think we should, they have a Himalayan task ahead of them.
View the Round 3 Nominees here
Read about the SIME Awards Process here
What amazes me is the diversity of the whole list, from music / video streaming to video ad servers, from search 2.0 (or 3.0 / 3.0 – whatever) to AI, from surface charging to web security, they just all seem to come in all forms and shapes, with innovation being the common aspect they all share.

Mighty 36 has garnered a lot more traction than we thought, keeping people and companies anxious (Read the LinkedIn comment in this post), to get every ounce of the details to know if they have made the cut or not. And if they did, boy, the joy and thank you emails seem to be unparalleled, we call it the SIME Magic.
The nominees in Round 3 are :
Sweden:
- Spezify
- Oculusai
- Livebookings
- LoadImpact
- Burt
- Mr. Green
- Cloudo
Finland:
- Powerkiss
- WebOfTrust (WOT)
- WreckaMovie
Denmark:
- YouCalc
- Unity Technologies
- Endomondo
We feature every one of the nominees in a daily section called “Meet the Nominee of the Day”. You can meet the so far nominated companies through this section here. (tag = nominee of the day)
So here is a salute to all those who made it to the Mighty 36. The rest, you are all super stars of Scandinavia as well. We think its great you made it this far, and we wish you all the very best in your journey. SIME is the dark sky, you are all the stars.

Posted by mahesh in SIME News | Oct 14, 2009 @ 6:28Company Bio
Peerialism develops peerialistic solutions to transport and store data on the Internet. Example solutions are video distribution for content owners and IP traffic optimization for broadband operators. The solutions are based on new generation Peer-to-Peer (P2P) technologies characterized by better use of networks resources and ISP friendliness. Peerialism captures more of the large assets of unused computing power and broadband connections whilst at the same time being beneficial to ISPs by reducing network traffic.

3, Android and SIME: Mobile Business Round Table, Stockholm – Post Event Summary
Posted by mahesh in SIME News | Oct 13, 2009 @ 11:523 and SIME organized a mobile business round table on Thursday, October 7, 2009 at O-Baren, Stockholm that went by the tag line, “because your mobile is more important than your pinky” , which many people really voted to be. On a loose survey conducted at SIME last year, many people felt that they would lose their pinky in lieu of their mobile phone, startling but true.
It was a gathering of like minded people from the Swedish mobile circle talking about how the mobile industry has undergone changes, and probably why now is the best time to get into the sector. From the pioneering Scandinavian region, to the developing markets of India and Africa, mobile seems to the common uniting point for people. No one is ever found without a mobile in the hand, and if at all that is a yardstick to go by, what should marketers, developers, telco’s and OEM’s do to embrace the revolution. The main topics of focus was:
- Geeks vs the Markets
- Mobile Marketing, the hype to reality. How steep is the graph really
- The Asian tilt of the market
- And the walled garden of the telco’s.
The event got into motion with the following video (in Swedish only, thanks the viral company)

SIME Speaker Series: 5 key media trends by Sara Öhrvall, SVP R&D, the Bonnier Group (Sweden)
Posted by mahesh in SIME News | Oct 9, 2009 @ 18:37
Below is a guest post by Sara Öhrvall, SVP R&D, the Bonnier Group (Sweden) and one of the powerful voices in the media scene in Sweden. Here she highlights 5 key trends in media consumption pattern. Catch her at SIME Stockholm on November 11, 12 this year. 5 Media Trends
The Quantified Self
Tools for knowing your own behavior, mind and body are increasingly popular. It seems like we are trying to make sense of the information overload through more granularity of control. Reality mining and self-tracking are natural for a generation who has a fascination for numbers, as bloggers (counting comments, inward links, other bloggers citing them), Facebook members (number for friends), Tweet producers (followers, mentions) etc. With new technology, people can count their steps, blood sugar, friends, trips, spending patterns, phone calls and e-mail data (who contacted you, how many times and how often did you reply?). People have a lot of data to manage. And they will.
Augmented Reality
The difference between print and digital products will be less. The internet of things will be connecting physical items, as print products, to each other and the net. Books, magazines, newspapers will all have interactive and social features. Enhanced books come alive with audio and video extras like those found on a DVD. Instead, we will differ between passive and active media consumption. Media that requires my active involvement and media and that allows me to passively enjoy, all of it digital in one way or the other.
The Good Enough Revolution
People prefer immediate access to owning. Real time streamed media, as for example Spotify and Ninja video, will win against possessive media, focusing on the user need to own and keep the media product. It seems like the immediate access is so important that not even the quality issues of the existing streamed media is a problem. If the experience is good enough and more convenient, we are happy. To be compared with the netbook revolution and the mp3 effect.
Imedia
We believe that soon, a quarter of all media will be produced edited and consumed among peers. It is not only about user-generated content, it is a new media format that is all about collaboration. Where the creation process – the editing, refining and remixing together with friends, is the entertainment.
Girl Power
Young women (below 30) are tripling their online video consumption, doubling their blogging activity, tripling the length and number of online discussions and doubling their social network activity. All compared to last year. For the first time in the Web history, women are outnumbering men.
And we only say, oh yes, we are already seeing it, we just did not see it this clear.
Catch Sara Öhrvall at SIME Stockholm this year.

SIME – mobile business round table and beers with Tre
Posted by mahesh in SIME News Upcoming | Oct 7, 2009 @ 14:02Because your mobile is more important than your pinky
SIME together with tre (or 3, the telecom company) is organizing a mobile business round table (and what’s the spice without a hint of pint) tomorrow in Stockholm.
And it goes by the tag line “because your mobile is more important than your pinky” which is not just a random WTF statement, but rather a line that was made at SIME last year. During one of the panels, when the moderator of the day, Ola Ahlvarsson made a quick survey of the audience if they would trade their mobile for their pinky, there was a sizable number that were perfectly fine in losing their pinky in lieu of the mobile phone, and if that’s the market demographics your mobile business is targeting, you got some die hard users of the gadget.
Event information:
Date: Thursday October 7, 2009
Time: 1700 – 1900
Venue: O-Baren Restaurant, Stureplan, Stockholm
And the facebook event invite can be found here
So are you going to O-Baren to learn more about the mobile business? We think you should.
Welcome!
