  • SIME Stockholm: More thought leaders, more inspiration!

Posted by mahesh in Inspiration SIME People SIME09 Upcoming | Oct 19, 2009 @ 21:05

With only little more than 3 weeks left to one of the most important events of the year, the digital journey with SIME just got more exciting.

[SIME Stockholm is to be held on November 11, 12 in Stockholm]

More thought leaders who we have been trying to hunt down for a very long time have finally given their nod, and clearly, they are going to be a major catalyst for this year’s SIME Stockholm edition. With workshops and networking bazaars that gives you all the knowledge and most importantly time (we think networking breaks are typically undervalued in most events) to meet other entrepreneurs, VC’s, intrapreneurs, creatives that are going to SIME this year, the buzz is going to be scintillating.

Workshop Info and Networking Bazaar information

We already mentioned the names of the first batch of top speakers consisting of Dr. Werner Vogels (CTO of Amazon), Steven Overman (founder Realtime project), Josh Cooper Remo ( MD, Kissinger Associates), Sara Öhrvall, SVP R&D, the Bonnier Group (Sweden). Now, we have some fresh names:

anilhansjee_65Anil Hansjee (Head of Corp. Dev, Google EMEA, UK)

svenhagstromer_65Sven Hagströmer (founder Hagströmer & Qviberg, Sweden)

rolverikryssdal_65Rolv Erik Ryssdal, CEO Schibsted (Norway)

pekkapohjakallio_65Pekka Pohjakallio (VP Concepting and Innovation, Nokia, Finland)

    and there is more …

Check out the speaker roster here

    Check out the agenda here

The beauty of SIME is the diversity of the speakers and people who participate. So having a rock star, a hacker and a venture capitalist on stage could be bizzare for some, but we think its pretty cool to see what brings all such people under one digital banner. And probably SIME can be proud that its one of those rare events that feature corporates in a completely chilled out setting, away from the tightly suited mindset one might associate them with. And no wonder we have a slew of such companies working with us, since it does not hurt to be considered cool. Adding the entrepreneurial / intrapreneurial quotient just made it a perfect digital event, one that you should not miss

See you at SIME Stockholm, November 11, 12

  • SIME – mobile business round table and beers with Tre

Posted by mahesh in SIME News Upcoming | Oct 7, 2009 @ 14:02

Because your mobile is more important than your pinky

SIME together with tre (or 3, the telecom company) is organizing a mobile business round table (and what’s the spice without a hint of pint) tomorrow in Stockholm.

And it goes by the tag line “because your mobile is more important than your pinky” which is not just a random WTF statement, but rather a line that was made at SIME last year. During one of the panels, when the moderator of the day, Ola Ahlvarsson made a quick survey of the audience if they would trade their mobile for their pinky, there was a sizable number that were perfectly fine in losing their pinky in lieu of the mobile phone, and if that’s the market demographics your mobile business is targeting, you got some die hard users of the gadget.

    Event information:

    Date: Thursday October 7, 2009
    Time: 1700 – 1900
    Venue: O-Baren Restaurant, Stureplan, Stockholm

    (View Map / Karta)

And the facebook event invite can be found here

So are you going to O-Baren to learn more about the mobile business? We think you should.

    Welcome!

We at SIME started working behind the scenes through the summer, stealthily attending various entrepreneurial events, going to places where the young minds congregated, going for the geek girl meet up’s, going for those likemind and social media lunches, we took all the effort to make sure we covered every corner of the entrepreneurial news sources, and voila, we came up with a grand list of companies that we thought were befitting to be considered for our prize.

  • SIME Awards Stockholm: Process, meet the jury

Posted by mahesh in Awards Blog Entrepreneurship SIME Companies Upcoming | Sep 15, 2009 @ 19:14

SIME Awards this year has taken a completely new path. From the previous year’s edition of allowing companies to nominate themselves and then doing a yes or no jury vote, this year we decided to hand pick the “deserving” companies ourselves and then do the jury process. We dare to say that we have the who’s who of tomorrow’s digital stars of Scandinavia all indexed and tagged, ready to go through a stringent jury committee to capture the top prize at the Awards Gala and Dinner on November 12 in Stockholm.

View the agenda for SIME Stockholm here

SIME Awards has 2 categories this year:

    1. SIME Rising Stars of the North: The pioneers and innovators within the tech scene. Companies that have a working product / service, do not have more than 50 employees and, preferably was founded in the last 2 years. We call them the rising stars, the one’s that will be the toast of Scandinavia, giving the SIME audience a chance for a “aha” moment (more in the likes of “aha, we saw them first in SIME 09″)
    2. SIME Grand Prize: The Big Industry Star are the big lions that are roaring past the competition, finding interesting niches and most importantly, constantly innovating in the Scandinavian digital landscape.

View more info on the Awards here

At the present moment, we have made a list of companies that fit into these criteria, and passed it to the jury members. Once the jury express their opinion and reach a consensus, the nominees will be announced through the blog. The chosen companies will then be given a chance to talk and connect with you, make a quick blog even on why they think they would / should win the top SIME prize.

The jury for SIME Awards 09 consists of a handpicked team of experts within the areas Internet, technology, journalism and entrepreneurship. You can find their quick SIME – twitt- profiles, their online hang out spots right here

Good luck jury, looking forward to present the nominee list soon.

  • SIME – PwC Launch of Global Entertainment & Media Outlook (2009 – 2013)

Posted by mahesh in Knowledge Sime Academy SIME News Upcoming | Jun 11, 2009 @ 12:28
PWC together with SIME will be launching the PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Global Entertainment and Media Outlook (Outlook) for 2009 – 2013 at a by-invite only champagne launch at Hotel Diplomat (map link here) on June 16th between 10:30 AM and 12 PM. If you are interested in attending the event, you can find the details here or email felicio@sime.nu for RSVP.

    About Outlook

In volatile times, getting the right business information is crucial, and this publication is a reliable, comprehensive source for global analysis of consumer/end-user and advertising spending. With five year historical and five year forecast data, this edition highlights the impact of the economic crisis on 12 major industry segments across 48 countries.
    Outlook covers these industry segments:

    • Internet access spending: wired and mobile
    • Internet advertising: wired and mobile
    • TV subscriptions and license fees
    • Television advertising
    • Recorded music
    • Filmed entertainment
    • Video games
    • Consumer magazine publishing
    • Newspaper publishing
    • Radio and out-of-home advertising
    • Consumer and educational book publishing
    • Business-to-business publishin

Interview with Nicklas Kullberg, PWC Sweden

We also had the chance to speak to Nicklas Kullberg, responsible for the Entertainment & Media industry of PwC Sweden about the to – be released publication. Below you will find the text of the quick EMail chat:

SIME(S): Can you tell us what exactly is the purpose of the launch of Outlook?  What kind of businesses do you think would need the information in the Outlook? And how relevant are they?
Nicklas (N): The Outlook helps companies and analysts to obtain up-to-date and relevant information of historical data and also forecasts for the coming five year for different segments of the media industry. We are very excited to notice that many media companies refer to our report in their business plans and the release of our Outlook is extensively covered by press throughout the world. The Outlook gives valuable help for companies that consider moving into new countries or into new segments of the industry to take opportunity of the dramatic change in the media landscape.
S: You released an Outlook version for 2008 – 2012 last year, covering similar segments. Which segments have seen dramatic changes in numbers in this publication compared to the last?
N: As we have prepared this year’s Outlook, the full extent of the international financial crisis, the shortage of credit and the cutbacks in consumer spending has yet to be determined. It is not clear whether and to what degree the various stimulus packages will change the slide. We do however know that the global economy is more interrelated than ever and that developments in one country can quickly affect others. We have seen that the economic downturn has not changed the underlying economic factors for digital but influenced the timing of the industry change. We see new consumption habits feeding through to revenues in emerging areas like mobile access, digital music and video games which we believe will be growth segments in the future. As the emerging digital behaviors become more dominant among consumers, a new generation of ad-funded revenue models will emerge, seeking to reflect and capitalize on the evolving consumption habits. In the short-run, we project a dramatic down-turn for segments such as TV-advertising and magazines as well as newspaper and business-to-business publishing. By 2011, several segments will have consolidated, the least loyal customers will have already left to be replaced by higher-quality products valued both by consumers and advertisers
S: Where do you get the data from? How credible are these sources?
N: We gather historical data from external sources such as government agencies, trade associations and other related entities. In instances where the information is used indirectly, the sources are proprietary. The forecast information is based on forecast scenario models based on factors such as economic, demographic, technological, institutional, behavioral and competitive. Since we have now produced forecasts for the media industry for 10 years in a row, we are confident that the sources we use are reliable. To our help in gathering the data, we use Wilkofsky Gruen Associates that is a well-reputated US based research and analyst firm.
S: And where can the people purchase the report? Is there a preview / sample available before purchasing the actual document?
N: To order a copy of the full 600-plus-page edition, please visit www.pwc.com/outlook. If you want to have a preview of the book, you can send a request to me at nicklas.kullberg@se.pwc.com.
We thank Nicklas for his time, and we at SIME are curious to take a glance at the report for more than a couple of reasons!
