SIME 09: Interviews with the audience

At SIME Stockholm during November, we had a diverse set of folks from all over the place who were keen on exploring digital opportunities together with us. From top level managers, city councils / government organizations to first time entrepreneurs, from the traditional business to the artistic ones, people came in all forms and shapes. We did quick 2 minute interviews with some of the folks. You can find the videos below.

1. Interview with Myngle, a portal that helps you learn languages online + promo code

Myngle.com is very cool I think. Spreads the power of languages right to you at the comforts of your home. The concept has been spoken about from since the days of the dinosaurs, but none I think have implemented them as well as Myngle. Founded by Marina, an Italian living in Netherlands, the concept has caught on in Europe and is slowly taking flight.

With some great networking and business opportunities created during the SIME week, Marina is quite vociferous in her thank you to SIME. She has given all the SIME folks a discount code for you to learn languages at a discounted price. So to tingle the vernacular love in you, we suggest you go to http://myngle.com and enter the code “sime09″ to learn languages at a discount.

2. Chat with the winner of the SIME, 3 - Android Developer Challenge

You look at the app and you realize, how come I lived without it? And the man behind the app is quite straight faced when I ask him the motivation behind the app. He says “he needed it”, and you go inside your head, a classic geek reason ain’t it? The app helps you find the cheapest products near your current location, displays them on the maps, and allows one touch calling. With the info slurped from Hitta.se a directories site, this intelligent catalogue is your companion for your last minute “real time” shopping needs.

Jonas Petersson, the winner and the man in the video below feels that the app scene is too crowded and it is tough to go through various approval process, and have different walled gardens to work in. And of course, the lack of good distribution power for developers like him with the noise in the scene quite much reduces the expectation to live off apps, but instead follow more of passion and develop the app one has always wanted to.

3.  Friends of Barcelona

We had a lot of friends from Barcelona as part of their SIME journey to experience action from the mother ship. For a little bit of history lesson, the City Council of Barcelona helped SIME organize the Barcelona version this year (in May) with great critical acclaim to find stars within the Spanish digital industry and co-inspire the scene with Scandinavia. With more than 8 hand picked companies joining the folks from Barcelona Council and Chamber of Commerce to attend SIME Stockholm, we were more than happy to have them with us, participate in the various workshops and awards.

Below is an interview with the folks behind the Barcelona City Council and Chamber of Commerce who help Barcelona companies set up locally and help find partners abroad, and help international companies help establish in Barcelona. And the second interview is with a company called Nettranslation that helps translate large corporate websites into different languages.

SIME 09: Highlights

Relive the SIME Magic, the SIME Inspiration through some recorded footage and pictures

SIME 09 was all about the 4 dimensions of digital opportunities: business, knowledge, inspiration and fun, the 4 pillars or the corner stones for this year’s SIME. And we took every step to make sure during the 2 days you got your best business opportunities, learnt as much from the sessions, workshops, drew inspiration from the speakers and the participants and, most importantly had riveting fun before, during and after the conference.

Looking back, we did quite much shake the SIME cover. From coming up with a new format, an agenda that boasts of covering most verticals within the digital landscape, and a revised Awards format, we did have quite an uphill task to package them the best and add the SIME touch at the end. At the end, if you had as much fun at SIME as we had arranging it, we think it’s a job well done :)

The Highlights section is here

And stay tuned for the year ahead. SIME is going even more international, so get ready to welcome SIME to your city!

SIME Awards: Published the Draft Edition

Just a quick note to say, sorry, we stand digitally corrected.

We realized that we published the draft or earlier version of the Mighty 36 order yesterday, a mistake that makes few companies go up and down the list, not giving you the final numbers of what the entire jury agreed on.  And we realized it today (yes the after-party helped us), and we have corrected it. So if you were in the Mighty 36 and wondered why your rankings differed so drastically as compared to yesterday, we are sorry.

The final ranking can be found here.

Congrats folks, you are all stars of the Nordics!

We have 3 words for you!

You are great.

Yes, you know it, we know it, you are great. So here is a note from the SIME Team to say a quick thank you for helping us put together the best SIME of all time. It was great looking at opportunities being executed and businesses being created, and that truly is the pulse of SIME, bringing the best of people under one roof to inspire digital opportunities. We hope you enjoyed the journey as much as we loved paving it for you.

We have some great video footage, thanks to a Dutch Journalist 2.0 named Ayman Van Bregt who runs the marketingfacts.nl initiative. Big thanks Ayman.

Oh yes, #sime09 was the second most tweeted word in Scandinavia yesterday, beat by #googlewave, but going a notch above #youtube

Lights Camera Action! SIME is set to take off.

At Rigoletto, and the stage is perfect. The ambience music is in, people are slowly trickling in with their “FIKA” and “Kannelbulle”, the speakers are all gung-ho, the workshops and match-making desks are screaming to your senses, the lovely ladies with interesting “SMS Me” T-Shirts are everywhere taking interaction with them (and quite good number of followers, yes all men, some even thinking it’s their number), it’s time of that year where it’s a whole new world with SIME. The journey is about to begin in minutes.

And it’s rare 2 days where the Scandinavians are forced to rig off the shyness, and talk to the camera, it’s not an option, it’s an order. So be ready to be filmed, flashed till your eyes bleed with photos, and make sure you suck the juice out of SIME by meeting people.

SIME is set to take off. Tighten your seat belts, it’s going to be  journey of inspiration, knowledge, business and fun.

SIME - the inspiration has finally arrived. And the hash is #sime09 among other things!

SIME is here. It is 0200 in the morning, and this is no one day wonder. We have had sleepless days trying to fit the last bits and pieces to make sure we put up the best SIME of the year and boy its been one helluva journey. We think we have the secret recipe to make this year’s SIME memorable and up the ante for the coming years.

Anyways, through this blog I aim to introduce the tagging, live channels that we plan to use.

The official hash tag for this year at SIME is #SIME09.

Hashtag #SIME09So anything, just hash tag it with #SIME09 - be it twitter, facebook or adding it to the header of your liveblog.

Pictures on Flickr are recommended to be on Creative Commons (CC) (Founder of CC, Joi Ito is a SIME’ite and was in Stockholm last year). Videos, hashtag is too with #sime09. So anything at all you plan to do at SIME tomorrow, have the hash in the head.

We have set up a live channel at http://sime.nu/live powered by Twingly, where you can monitor both tweets with the hashtag #SIME09 and text messages that are sent to 72401 and begun with SIME.

And finally, bring your laptop, your open minds and ears for some inspiration SIME style. And for the strong and mighty hearted, be ready to rock the Stockholm city with our crazy parties at the end.

Stockholm, are you ready?

Meet the folks behind SIME

It’s my pleasure to introduce the team behind SIME, the folks who are rolling the juggernaut year on year, greasing the engine and making sure the vehicle gets just about better with time. SIME has grown to be one of the most important events in the digital scene, bringing together the top brass from the industry, finding interesting ways to put 1 and 1 together to magically form 3. SIME has always lauded itself to bring together a diverse set of speakers, a  70’s rock star and a internet entrepreneur who created last.FM for instance. Or a 13 year old ( a digital native) and a veteran entrepreneur running a premium dating and match-making service like Match.com, or even business managers from competing media firms, only for each one to chew the other person’s head off, all very well steered by the moderator Ola Ahlvarsson.

SIME 2006 was a cool industry event that marked the re-birth of SIME. 2007 was way too ahead of its time, evident when you check out our edition of SIME Talks and listen to some of the interviews. You realize predictions, and analysis were all but mostly true. 2008 was when the smartest people from all over the world went missing during the 2 SIME Days, and when Obama mysteriously stole the “Change” slogan from SIME (oh well, he used it to do much more good, so we can shake hands on it).
SIME 2009 promises to give you the best of 2 worlds. 1 being the power of networking and meeting people in large scale events, the glamor, the glitz and the oomph factor. 2 being the richness of quality and content of the event, the personalization, the stripped down feeling where ties are loosened up a notch and beer is welcomed when speakers are making their statements. And SIME this year has taken a conscious effort to focus on both as much equally, giving you workshops, networking bazaars, panels and keynotes, together with the glitz, glamor and the oomph that characterizes SIME.
Now, for the introduction of the SIME Crew.

SIME Talks - the Digest Edition

SIME Talks has got great traction. Modeled loosely on the TED Talks, we made it a habit at SIME to dig up interesting SIME content and post it every week as SIME Talks. And the whole exercise surprised us every single time. We found the SIME 2008 and 2007 content to still be completely relevant. Call it the death of the cruise gear in the digital landscape, or just may be SIME was doing good predicting the future, it is quite just surprising. With so many changes in the landscape, its hard to believe that the gears have fallen back and the wheels are coming to a halt. So quite surely, the speakers at SIME are visionaries, thought leaders who envision the crystal ball and are quite accurate in reading through it.

This post is a digest of all the SIME Talks till date. Of course, you can also watch all the SIME Talks using the tag “sime-talks”. That is http://sime.nu/tag/sime-talks.

In any case, listed below is quick summary of all the interviews along with individual links to the respective SIME Talk. Enjoy the collection!

Meet the Jury

A very good team in an interesting niche. The ability to track your excercises is done by numerous companies out there, but Endomondo manages to build a very strong social component on top of the tracking.
