SIME Vienna Wrap Up

SIME Vienna was a high energy, intense, action packed day featuring inspiring speakers, 1000+ strong audience in the crowd in the oldest brewery in town. True to the venue spirit, the theme of the day was called “Brewing the digital economy” as the day touched upon the latest aspects of digital – in the intersection of technology and media.

Industry Transformers

From the need for media companies to let entrepreneurs be entrepreneurs (external opportunities scouting), giving the best soil for intrapreneurs (internal innovations), the need to go global has never been greater now than ever before, to a sneak preview into the future cities with Assaf Biderman, the morning session was scintillating. As the next billion come online through their mobile phone, Microsoft and others are focusing on capturing them. The Mobile and Ubiquity panel focused on the need to think mobile first, the need for companies to have a sand box to test different ideas through a series of short ‘develop – launch – iterate’ cycle.

What if we were not afraid to fail?

David Rowan focused on the need to fail fast and learn iteratively as the price of failure vs cost of success goes down. He also shared his own personal failure story when he launched the royal wedding invitation online for the then 2000 royal wedding getting him very close to being busted.

The Crux of Entrepreneurship

The afternoon session featuring Stefan Glaenzer and Matthias Mickshe was fantastic as the 2 serial entreprenuers spoke about the need for everyone to talk (and blog) less and instead just do it. The penultimate session featuring Pablos Holman got the most laughs and the most WOW’s as he took us on a futuristic path including his grandeur plan of shooting mosquitoes with lasers on top of quick hacking fixes like hacking into the TV in a hotel room.

The grand finale was with Ulf Ekberg from Ace of Base who spoke about the transformation of the music industry, the parallels between music and media companies today as both are alienating their users from themselves. Detailed panel by panel coverage with videos to follow. SIME thanks all the speakers, the audience and our partners for making this day possible!
